The D&B Geeks build product, and write about it, at the Dun & Bradstreet Cloud Innovation Center.
The Core Tools team at the Dun & Bradstreet Cloud Innovation Center is responsible for building cross-team, re-usable visualization components such as line charts, bar charts, and other tabular visualizations. Life as a software engineer is never as simple as that though… Our charts must be flexible enough so they can be combined. They must have legends, axes, markers, and process user input. On top of that, it is our responsibility to provide an authoring tool to easily create, style and publish charts.
In this post, I am going to focus on why we chose React, the component architecture, and where we’re heading with that. Read More…
In this series, Mark talks about life at the D&B Cloud Innovation Center and the technological, cultural and company transformation the team is part of within Dun & Bradstreet.
When my cloud analytics startup, Indicee, was acquired almost a year ago, many people I spoke with were confused as to why Dun & Bradstreet had acquired the company, its software and its development team. “But doesn’t Dun & Bradstreet do financial stuff?” was something I got asked on a regular basis.
Many more people were confused by my choice to join the rest of my team as part of the newly founded D&B Cloud Innovation Center. After all, I’m a startup guy. A software, startup guy at that. Whoosh. There goes 2014. Since Indicee was acquired and the D&B Cloud Innovation Center founded last April, it’s been 9 months of whirlwind of activity for the team here in Vancouver. From customer focus groups, to global product workshops, to ping pong parties, we’ve been working hard and growing fast.
Most exciting of all is that development on the next generation of D&B’s flagship credit decision product, DNBi, is moving along at pace. Over the past few months, we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside product teams in New Jersey, Texas, Ireland and the UK, in defining the business requirements for our first cloud-based, global D&B product, being built right here in our own backyard.
It’s fair to say that the next year is going to be absolutely huge as we take the new DNBi to market around the world. While we have a lot of stuff to get done between now and then, we wanted to share some of our journey as a team in 2014, and our experience working globally within D&B as we look to launch in 2015. It’s been a few months since Indicee was acquired by Dun & Bradstreet and while we’ve been a little quieter than usual, it’s not because we haven’t been busy. The team here have been wrapping their heads around the 235 million business records in the D&B database (the largest commercial database in the world), getting to know the rest of the global team, and roadmapping a whole new generation of products.
We’ve also added a number of new faces to the Vancouver crew and our engineering team is growing rapidly. Know some awesome people? Send them our way! Read More…
